Last updated - 8 November 2017

We want to ensure that we work in partnership with our customers to improve the way we work.
At Genesis there are a number of ways for you to work with us to improve services, design new products, scrutinise the way we work and much more.

Here you can find more information about:

• Ways to get involved
• Reasons to be involved
• Residents Associations
• What residents and staff have said about involvement
• Information about upcoming events and meetings
• Getting involved online

What can you get involved with?

We want to ensure that we work in partnership with our customers to improve; this is why your views, comments and ideas are extremely important to us. Some activities require a regular time commitment, such as:

  • Customer Scrutiny Panel
Reviewing specific parts of our services, making recommendations of improvements to the business that are followed and monitored regularly.
  • Customer Disability Forum
Helping us to support and provide the best possible service for our disabled and vulnerable customers.

  • Customer Anti-social Behaviour Forum
Helping us to improve the way we deal with anti-social behaviour.

  • Customer Gas Servicing Forum
Supporting us to monitor the performance of our gas services contractors and to make improvements where needed.

  • Care and Support Customer Project Group
Ensuring our customers in supported housing have the opportunity to work with us to improve and develop the services provided to them.

  • Co-creation Steering group
Ensuring you have sufficient opportunity to work in partnership with us on key projects and improvement work.

Other ways to get involved usually take the form of a one-off activity or project, meaning you can give as much or as little time as you wish. Examples include:

  • Testing new products such as our MyGenesis customer app
  • Reviewing communications such as the Spotlight Magazine
  • Participating in focus groups to give your views on specific services
  • Designing new products and services with us
  • Helping us to review policies which affect customers
  • LGBT meetings and events
  • Helping us to choose the right contractors for repairs, cleaning, gardening and more!

If you’re interested to find out more about any of the above, or would like to work with us in a different way, please get in touch with the Customer Involvement Team by emailing customerinvolvement@genesisha.org.uk or by completing the form at the bottom of this page.

Why get involved?

At Genesis we believe it is important that services are designed and improved with the customer in mind, which is why it is vital that we work together.

We believe it is important that our customers who give up their time to work with us are given opportunities to develop skills and knowledge to help them provide an informed challenge to us, improve services and improve their own employability and confidence.  We work with other teams in Genesis to offer all of our volunteers various training and support.

We deliver training internally, through external training providers and in partnership with other housing providers.  Some examples of the training and activities we offer include:

  • Presentation skills
  • CV building skills
  • Chairing skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Sign language
  • Dementia awareness
  • Health and wellbeing
  • Yoga training
  • Funded attendance at housing conferences/events

Getting your neighbours involved - 5 easy steps to set up your own Residents Association

Residents Associations can make a real positive difference to your local area. As part of a Residents Association you could:

  • Have regular access to Genesis staff
  • Organise community projects and events
  • Receive funding from Genesis for your work
  • Have access to free training provided by Genesis

You can set up a Residents Association in five easy steps:

  1. Plan – what do you want to achieve?
  2. Contact your Neighbourhood Manager
  3. Hold a public meeting and vote
  4. Inform residents of the outcome and next steps
  5. Up and running!

For more information on each step, including what you will need and how Genesis can support you, contact us for a Residents Association toolkit.

What you've said about getting involved

Here are a few quotes from residents who have been involved with our work:

It is great to see so many Neighbourhood Managers presenting Projects on behalf of their residents to improve the safety, security and the environment where they live.
Being a part of the process of change was rewarding, knowing that you can make a difference not only for yourself and other customers but for the benefit of staff as well.

What we’ve said about customer involvement

We value customer feedback, be it a complaint, compliment, comment or idea. Here are a few quotes from staff who have worked in partnership with residents to improve services:

Customers have definitely influenced changes to several policies and we really value this input… based on our experience this year, we feel much more confident about the positive difference customers can make to all customer-related policy reviews in the future.
The away-day demonstrated very strongly the value of listening to our customers and acting on their concerns.
