HouseProud nominated for NatWest British LGBT Award

Last updated - 12 February 2018

HouseProud, the cross-sector LGBT network for staff working in social housing, has been nominated for a NatWest British LGBT Award.

The network was co-founded by staff from Genesis and L&Q in 2015 and launched at Genesis’ head office in Camden.  It now has over 41 members primarily covering London and the South East, as well as an affiliated North-West branch.

HouseProud acts as a forum for sharing ideas and industry best practice, supports and advocates for members, and campaigns to influence policy.  It hosts regular speaker events and also organises extravaganzas at Pride London and Essex Pride each year.

The winner in the LGBT network category will be announced at the awards ceremony in central London on 11 May 2018.  The British LGBT awards are designed to showcase organisations and individuals that have demonstrated a commitment and have gone the extra mile for the LGBT community.

Miles Lanham, Business Manager at Genesis, co-founded HouseProud and was himself shortlisted for a British LGBT Award in the Diversity Champion category last year.  He said: “I am over the moon – it’s so rewarding to see an organisation that was started here in Atelier House become such an important player across the sector and deliver for LGBT colleagues and customers.”

Next week sees the launch of research commissioned by HouseProud into the experiences of LGBT*Q residents in social housing.  The research has been carried out by the University of Surrey and Goldsmiths, University of London, with funding from Genesis and five other housing associations.
