Assistive technology pilots
Technology is increasingly shaping the home environment, and
supported housing has much to gain in this area. We have embarked
on a number of pilots within our sheltered accommodation for older
people in partnership with O2.
At one of our older people’s schemes in Essex, we are trialing
the use of motion sensors in our communal areas to increase
customer safety. Sensors can enable staff to be notified
immediately in the event of movement during late night hours. This
will help our night staff to support customers more effectively and
provide immediate care if someone has fallen, or perhaps support
those who wander as a result of dementia.
These and other technologies offer the chance to: increase
customer independence; reduce risk; enhance their support
experience; and in some cases, reduce the cost of care.
