Older persons programme

Active citizens 50+
Run in partnership with Open Age, this project helps residents aged 50+ in the W2 area of Westminster stay active and socialise. Activities range from yoga classes to IT.
Digital unite
We installed computer equipment in fifteen supported housing schemes for older people in East London. We train residents how to use computers, search the internet and send email with the support of Hairnet UK who have many years experience of teaching older people.
Knitty Noras
Our charitable knitting club was founded by residents from sheltered schemes and has 100 female and male members. The group knits blankets, clothes and hats for premature babies at local hospitals.
Golden ambassadors
A team of older people from our supported housing schemes who volunteer their time to help with the older person's programme. They provide support at activities and events, act as representatives for Genesis Community, lead on consultation panels and develop their own mini projects across East London and Essex.
Life long learning
We run workshops and courses to develop existing skills and teach residents new ones, giving older people the opportunity to socialise and interact with other people. Residents help to design a programme of activities around art, music, exercise seasonal events. After taster sessions in this project, many schemes apply for funding from the Knowles Trust so they can run their own courses.
