Genesis is working in partnership with Mind the mental health charity to provide befriending training for its residents as part of the Nesta funded Give More Get More programme.

All participants in the programme will be aged 50 years or more.

Volunteers ready for workThe programme called V50 will mobilise 60 volunteers to support a further 60 residents who are socially isolated who also have low to moderate mental health support needs.

The programmes aims are to increase the skills and wellbeing of the volunteers and to also reduce social isolation and better connect its residents to local neighbourhood facilities.

This is an excellent opportunity to have a positive impact on another person’s life and use the skills and experience you've developed over the years as part of an intensive volunteer placement.

Where is it?

The programme will be delivered over 6 London boroughs which are: Barnet, Brent, Westminster, Tower Hamlets, Newham and Hackney.

How long do I volunteer for?

Volunteers are expected to complete a total of 120 hours volunteer hours or more over a 3-4 month period. On average volunteers will be expected to undertake between 10-12 hours per week.

What support is provided?

All volunteers will receive training by the mental health charity Mind and have the support of a Genesis member of staff who will be the volunteers mentor. Travel and lunch expenses are also provided for the volunteers.
