Youth employment training launched in London
Genesis Community, the charitable arm of Genesis Housing Association, has been chosen as a delivery partner on a project funded by the
Big Lottery Fund. The ‘Fixed 4 Your Future’ (F4F) project will be funded through the Big Lottery (BIG) Youth in Focus funding stream.
Over three years, Genesis Community and its partners on the project will work with 240 care leavers and those who have left Young Offenders’ Institutions, helping them to move on with their lives, develop their employability skills and resilience so that they can achieve their goals.
The project is open to young people between 15 and 25 and will consist of a work accreditation course for young people, level 1 FA football accreditation, and will also include short courses on CV writing, how to apply for jobs online and interview skills.
Fabian Gilbert, Youth Programme Delivery Manager for Genesis Community said: "Genesis Community is looking forward to being a delivery partner within the Fixed for Your Future partnership. We believe that ex-offenders and care leavers should have the opportunities to go on to achieve their own personal ambitions with support from Genesis Community and the F4F partnership."
Everyone on the course will have access to a qualified life coach who will help them identify their future goals in terms of their health, career, housing, finance and relationships.
Young people who progress into learning or work will be offered an additional 12 months follow up coaching to help them maintain their positive momentum. Life skills support will include practical sessions on topics such as budgeting, basic DIY and how to cook a meal.
Other partners on the project include Prospects services, Brent Care Planning, Youth Offending Service, First Rung, BANG Edutainment and the College of North West London.
Anyone wanting to find out more information about the course and get involved should contact Fabian Gilbert, Youth Programme Delivery Manager at Genesis Community.
