Homeless in London get a helping hand to tackle the cold
Charitable staff at Genesis Housing Association have helped the homeless to keep warm this winter by donating to the
Salvation Army Oxford Street Homeless Project. Laden with 22 bags stuffed with coats and winter clothing, staff from Genesis’ offices in London handed over the haul to the Salvation Army to be distributed to those sleeping rough over the next few months.
Along with the bumper collection of clothes, Knitty Noras, a charitable knitting club made up of Genesis residents, also donated specially knitted scarves and hats. The Salvation Army, as one of Genesis’ chosen charities, was also handed a cheque for £1,000, which had been raised throughout the year by staff.

Margaret Roffe, from Genesis who organised the collection, said: “Having seen the Salvation Army’s appeal I thought it would be great for Genesis to support it and get involved. Many people have coats that languish in the back of their wardrobes, which they never wear, but are too good to throw out. The support from staff across Genesis was fantastic, as shown by the number and quality of coats that we were able to collect. It is also great, given the current hardship people are experiencing; that the coats will be given to people that will use them.”
