Bishop of Edmonton pays a visit to Grahame Park
Two of the most senior Church of England figures in north London paid a visit to Grahame Park last week to catch up on the regeneration of the Colindale estate. Bishop of Edmonton, Peter Wheatley and the Archdeacon of Hampstead, Father Luke Miller, came to see the results of two years of hard work following their last visit.
During the trip, the Bishop and Archdeacon came to look at the first phase of the Grahame Park regeneration, which is being led by leading social housing landlord Genesis Housing Association, along with Barnet Council. They both got to see the transformed Heybourne Park before being shown around the new homes which local residents have now moved in to. Next up on the tour was a look at the demolition work as part of Phase 1b which will see 18 blocks knocked down by spring next year.
Following the visit, Father Dane Batley-Gladden of the local church, St Augustine’s, commented: “The Bishop and Archdeacon were both amazed at the pace of change. They saw the care which Genesis had for the people affected by this huge project and were very appreciative of the efforts made to engage with residents.
“They now have a much clearer idea of the ambition of the regeneration and the fact that it is clearly deliverable. The Bishop was struck by the change from the hopes when he last visited to the very clear foundations for the future which now exist.”
Luke Riley, Genesis Project Director for Grahame Park, said: “We were all very pleased to host the Bishop and the Archdeacon so they could see the great progress that has been made to regenerate Grahame Park. The last two years have seen many big changes to the area for the better, and we’re now pressing ahead with the next phase to turn the area into a great place for residents to live.”
