Genesis helps resident make a musical mark

Thanks to the help of Genesis Housing Association, one resident has been able to achieve their dream of teaching music production.

After an illustrious career in the music industry, which saw him produce records for legendary bands such as Duran Duran, Roxy Music and OMD, Ian Little encountered a lean period of illness and unemployment and came to live in a Genesis flat. After discussions with his property manager about passing on the skills he’d learnt, Ian was put in contact with Genesis Community, the charitable arm of Genesis, and their community development team. Mike Stuart, Community Development Officer at Genesis Community, met with Ian to discuss his next steps: “Ian wanted to share his music producing skills with young people, but he was unable to pay for the necessary course. Fortunately I was able to source a grant for him from our Kick Start fund.”

With the help of the grant, which paid for his training, Ian enrolled in a ‘Preparing to teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector’ course and hopes to start teaching at a local college.

Ian said of Genesis’ support: “They have restored my faith in organisations such as Genesis and have shown that they can make an impact on the communities they work in.”
