Volunteers needed!

Do you want to gain new skills and help other people? Have you ever considering doing voluntary work? Here’s your chance.

Genesis has appointed Richard Sharp to help residents find their ideal volunteering opportunities.

There are many reasons for volunteering, including:

  • Gaining new skills, knowledge and experience
  • Improving employment prospects
  • Using skills and knowledge to benefit others
  • Making new friends
  • Getting to know the local community
  • Helping others less fortunate or without a voice
  • Gaining confidence and self-esteem

With the wide variety of volunteering opportunities that are available today, there is bound to be something for everyone.

Richard said: “I see my role as a broker, where residents can identify what they are interested in. After listening to what people are interested in, I then act on their behalf looking for a placement that suits them. It doesn’t matter what areas residents say they would like to volunteer in, I am confident that in most cases, a placement can be found that’s worthwhile for them.

At the moment a lot of people are chasing the same jobs and it’s pretty tough out there. A volunteering placement could therefore provide the extra edge in a job interview. Alternatively, older people may see volunteering as a good way of getting out of the house and taking part in an activity where they meet other people and do something useful”.

There are a number of exciting and challenging volunteering placements within Genesis that you can apply for. There will be new volunteering opportunities appearing all the time in G magazine and on the website.

So what are you waiting for?  Get in touch with us; we will be able to listen to you and advise you on possible volunteering options.
