Grahame Park in line to receive "Get Britain Building" cash

Grahame Park, Genesis Housing Association’s radical regeneration programme in Barnet, has been earmarked as a potential recipient from the Homes and Communities Agency’s (HCA) Get Britain Building scheme. The funding will go towards building over 120 homes as part of Genesis work to transform the estate in Barnet.

The Colindale based project was picked by the HCA as one of only 18 projects in the country deemed to be “of high importance to particularly communities” and one which could “create wider local benefits”. Following its selection, Grahame Park enters a final stage which looks at the deliverability and fit with local priorities before it secures a share of the £420m funding. Grahame Park

Luke Riley, Genesis Project Director at Grahame Park, welcomed the news: “Genesis’ work at Grahame Park has been progressing well since the first residents were able to move in to their new homes last year. This extra funding will be a boost as we take another step forwards towards achieving our vision of providing new homes fit for the 21st century. We will continue to work closely with the HCA so that this funding can be unlocked quickly and benefit the local community.”

Pat Richie, chief executive of the HCA said: “Our partners have once again demonstrated their appetite to get Britain building by developing much needed new homes, in turn generating additional benefits through economic growth and activity. I am particularly pleased that teams at the HCA have moved quickly to identify 18 schemes of particular local importance that we can get moving immediately.”

Genesis’ work in partnership with the London Borough of Barnet will see 3,000 homes built on the site of the old estate as well as improved community facilities and shops. The Get Britain Building programme was announced last year as the part of the government’s housing strategy. Its intention is to help unlock 16,000 homes by December 2014.
