Housing and support for homeless people
In East Anglia we help tackle homelessness by providing shared or self contained accommodation and support for 700 single homeless people and people who are unsuitably housed. This may include people with learning disabilities, mental health problems or drug and alcohol issues. We also provide services for offenders.
The aim of our support is to help people find their feet, manage their own tenancies and move back into their local community in suitable accommodation.
Homeless accommodation
- Houses – We have 42 schemes for people who need day-to-day support. Residents have the opportunity to learn life skills and receive support which is tailored to their individual needs. Residents have their own room shared use of communal facilities including kitchen, lounge, laundry and garden.
Group homes – We have 18 of these properties located in close proximity to our larger staffed schemes, should residents require assistance or extra support. Residents in these homes are encouraged to do their own shopping and cook in their shared kitchen.
Move-on flats – We have 16 of these flats which offer residents the opportunity to live independently, yet still receive support when it is required. These are self contained flats.
Homeless floating support
Genesis homeless support also offers a floating support service to individuals who live in their own homes in the community. We have a team of 30 floating support workers and assistants operating across East Anglia.
All users of this service have their own bespoke support plan tailored to their individual needs to ensure they sustain their accommodation and retain their independence. Support includes:
- completing forms
- budgeting and managing debt
- claiming benefits and grants
- developing life skills
- training, development and education
- community participation
- signposting to appropriate external agencies.
