City Park West in Chelmsford
Last updated - 2 November 2017
An historic beginning
City Park West will offer nearly 650 homes including shared ownership, rental and extra care units once completed by our partners Higgins Construction in 2018. The scheme, which started on site in 2013, has already delivered homes and new green space with commercial units too. It has sympathetically restored three historic buildings including The Anne Knight Building, a former Quaker meeting house.
The development is just a short walk from Chelmsford's city centre, with its range of shopping, leisure amenities and vibrant nightlife. It is also ideally located just a short walk from Chelmsford train and bus stations.
A masterplan of transformation
In November 2012, Genesis was granted planning permission for the former Anglia Ruskin University site.
The first phase of redevelopment started on 7 January 2013 to deliver 219 new homes including a 65 bedroom extra care facility. Within this phase, The Anne Knight, Frederick Chancellor and the Law building were brought back into commercial and public use within a series of new public spaces including shops, cafés and offices. Phase 1 was completed in late 2015 .
The second phase includes delivery of 426 new homes, 4,900 Sq M of commercial floor space, new public open spaces and underground parking. Phase 2 is currently underway and is due for completion in early 2019, delivering over 300 new homes.
It launched in October 2017 bringing 40 new shared ownership homes and a further 50 homes available for private rent. These will be ready to move into in early 2018.
